Picturesque cycle tour "Monschauer-Land-Route"
The "Monschauer-Land-Route" cycle tour takes you right across the idyllic Monschauer Land region. You cycle along the Rur, through the Eifel National Park, the district of Höfen, the cloth-making town of Monschau and back to the Rursee.
Overview:
- Route: 40.7 km
- Duration: approx. 3 hours
- Ascent: 373 hm
- Descent: 373 hm
- Difficulty: medium
- Start and finish: Einruhr hiking parking lot
Highlights along the way:
Step 1 - Eifel National Park:
Right at the start, the tour takes you through the only national park in North Rhine-Westphalia. You ride through forests dominated by beech trees and experience the 110 square kilometers of protected nature in the Eifel. You will have to pedal a little harder on this part of the route as it is uphill.
Step 2 - Höfen:
A short detour to the district of Höfen is worthwhile. The district of Monschau is particularly known for its artistically designed hedges. Entrances, windows and archways are cut into the Vennhöfe. Monschau-Höfen is also one of the five national park gates in the Eifel. Photo tip: In spring, numerous daffodils bloom along the section of the route in the Furthsbach Valley and provide the perfect backdrop for a (group) photo.
Step 3 - Monschau:
The little town is known as the "Pearl of the Eifel", and not without good reason. The picturesque town is characterized by half-timbered idylls and quarry stone buildings. The townscape has hardly changed for almost 300 years. Museum stop: If you fancy a bit of culture, you can visit the Red House and let yourself be transported back to the 18th century.
Step 4: Rur valley and Rursee lake:
Through the peaceful Rur valley, you'll finally make your way back to the Rursee. At the end: After the cycle tour, you can take a leisurely boat trip across the beautiful Eifel lake district.
Snack tips: You can stop off at a restaurant in Monschau along the route. At the end of the tour, you can stop for refreshments in the village of Einruhr.
