Kupferhof Sonnental
Stolberg
This complex was built as an extension of a copper farm (the Enkerei), which no longer exists today, and was erected in 1730 as an independent ensemble of buildings.
In 1835, a glassworks was built in Sonnental, but it ceased operations after only 15 years. In 1850, after a rebuilding and extension of the site, an iron foundry was established, which operated here for more than 100 years. Thus the estate is strongly influenced by 19th century building forms.
In the course of the redevelopment of the old town, the former Sonnental copper yard was redesigned in the 1980s and an attractive residential complex was created. Remains of the walls of the former iron foundry (quarry stone) can still be seen in the northern boundary wall of the inner courtyard.
Discover this and many other copper courtyards on a stroll through Stolberg while enjoying the flair of the old town and the charm of the Gründerzeit. Our flyer "Kupferstadt & Kupferhöfe" will show you the way!
