2. Etappe Wildnis-Trail-Familientour
Simmerath
Wilderness(es), an abandoned village and a dam wall taller than the Leaning Tower of Pisa!
As a family-friendly offer, you can shorten the second Wilderness Trail* stage in a comfortable way.
You start this day trip with your family in Einruhr am Obersee. In the morning, take a 10-minute bus ride from there to Vogelsang IP, bus stop "Forum", where the approximately 7 km long hike starts. Before the hiking tour, you can visit the interesting, modern and child-friendly 'Wildnis(t)räume' exhibition at the Eifel National Park Center at Vogelsang IP. The exhibition is equipped with various hands-on elements and invites you to discover the flora and fauna of the Eifel National Park. From there, you start with a 3.5 km hike through the valley, up to the deserted village of Wollseifen. In Wollseifen, you can visit the old school and the partially renovated church. This would be a nice place for a picnic. From Wollseifen, the route takes you across the Dreiborn plateau on a flat stretch of around 3 km to the imposing Urftsee dam wall. Along the way, there are breathtaking views of the Kermeter National Park area, the heart of the national park, and of the Urftsee lake with the dam wall. Once you arrive at the bottom of the impressive dam wall of the Urft dam, you can take a seat on the terrace and enjoy a refreshment or a snack before taking the comfortable Rursee boat trip back to Einruhr (journey time approx. 1 hour). The Rursee boat trip runs from Easter to the end of October.
Back in Einruhr, you and your family can take a dip in the Einruhr natural adventure pool or visit the playground on the lakeshore.
*The Wilderness Trail is a hiking trail that leads in four stages through the middle of the Eifel National Park from Monschau-Höfen to Zerkall. Some sections are particularly suitable for families with children.
